The Marine Recreation Association is a non-profit association that represents marina owners, operators and industry professionals throughout the Western U.S., Mexico, Hawaii and Australia. The Association’s mission is to provide a united voice in representing the interests of the boating and marina industries and to help educate and inform in all areas of recreational boating.
CBC - Advocacy in Motion
CBC has become the venue where key issues concerning California’s $9 billion boating industry can be advocated in Sacramento, if not beyond.
A few years ago, CBC attendees learned that an unscrupulous NGO had attacked 25 boatyards and marinas with Notices of Intent to file suit alleging violations of the Clean Water Act (CWA). These lawsuits resulted in costing business owners’ countless sleepless nights while the NGO slept comfortably collecting millions of dollars in settlement fees.
In response, these companies banded together and with the support of MRA filed a complaint with various oversight agencies regarding this NGO, requesting an investigation into the legitimacy of the NGO’s non-profit status.
At the 2018 CBC, MRA announced these investigations were underway.
Sailing the good ship “Advocacy” can be slow at times, but there is a finish line. CBC is both the start and finish line for advocacy in the boating industry. Click here to learn more
