Marine Recreation Association Announces Innovation Award Winners at Annual Conference

Leading marina industry companies Bellingham Marine, Seaflex, Marina Electrical Equipment and Wiggin Lift Co., were honored by the MRA for the companies' substantial contributions to the industry through the development of some of the industry's greatest technological breakthroughs.

November 13, 2015 — The Marine Recreation Association (MRA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Association’s Innovation Awards. These award recipients represent companies and individuals who have advanced technology in a way that has materially affected the marina industry. The awards were presented the opening night of the association’s 44th annual conference, which was held October 26 – 28, 2015 in Santa Barbara, California, at the Fess Parker.

Retrospective Innovation Awards were received by Bellingham Marine, renowned international marina builder, for the company’s development of the Unifloat concrete floating dock system and to Seaflex, leading underwater anchoring supplier, for the development of the Seaflex anchoring system. Both the Unifloat dock system and the Seaflex anchoring system have become household names in the marina industry and are well regarded for excellence in performance and quality in design.

Awards in the contemporary category went to leading electrical equipment provider, Marina Electrical Equipment and industry forklift expert, Wiggins Lift Co.

Marina Electrical Equipment received an award for the development of the Sentinel—the only all-in-one, patented electronic meter that can also identify electrical leakage conditions and turn off power to potentially dangerous devices before a problem occurs.

The award to Wiggins Lift Co was received for the company’s new Marina FLX lift. The FLX lift is the first of its kind. All-wheel steering makes the lift easy to maneuver in tight areas. The lift also has the boat positioned inside the lift’s body, which means aisles can be much narrower.

“It is with great pleasure that we honor these four companies for their commitment to leading our industry and to supporting the day to day operations of marina owners and managers through the development of new products and technologies that in the end add value to the marina's business,” said Kevin Ketchum, MRA President.
